THE Probus Club of Stourbridge met on Tuesday 15th April at the Talbot Hotel.
The President, Denis Howard welcomed the members and their Ladies for Lunch which was followed by a most interesting talk on Mother of pearl' by George Hook. His family firm had begun making buttons, handles ,spoons and jewellery back in 1820. He brought samples of various shells from all over the world and described how they were transformed into the useful objects he displayed. The peak of the industry was during the Victorian era and unfortunately there are only two Manufacturing Companies now.in this country. Following a number of questions the vote of thanks was given by Sid Heyes.
