PLUCKY pupils at Ridgewood High School put in a brave performance in the final of the North Midlands Schools RFU Plate Competition only to narrowly miss out.
The year 11 side were beaten 22-20 by Shropshire-based, Bedstone College.
During the first half the score see-sawed with Ridgewood scoring first with an unconverted try from Stu Williams.
Bedstone then hit back before Liam Marshall put Ridgewood ahead once again only for their opponents to score once more to leave the teams level pegging at 10-10 going in at the break.
In the second-half Bedstone scored first to make it 17-10 before Ridgewood full-back Karl Holder touched down for a converted try.
Ridgewood took the lead through a penalty from Jamie Gatfield before Bedstone scored a winning try in the last minute.
This was a spectacular achievement for the lads from Ridgewood High School and was their last match together as they all will be leaving the school after their exams.
The year group has been the most successful rugby team in the school's history having won a host of trophies.
