THE Black Country Living Museum is celebrating its 30th birthday during half term week, with a series of street parties.

The museum will be acknowledging the landmark anniversary with a street party for each of the region's boroughs - in recognition of the important role each has played in the museum's history.

The Dudley street party will take place on Tuesday 27, followed by Sandwell on Wednesday 28, Walsall on Thursday 29 and Wolverhampton on Friday May 30.

A fun filled party atmosphere will be the order of the day with traditional food and a special birthday cake.

Bunting will line the streets and games including hopscotch, whip and top and skittles will be played throughout the day.

Emma Middleton, marketing manager, said: "Since the museum first opened its doors to the public in 1978, the collections have grown enormously as the people of the Black Country have taken the museum to their hearts.

"The museum continues to develop and change, so there is always something different to see.

"In that first preview season the museum attracted just 9,000 visitors. Today we attract more than 260,000 visitors.

The museum is on the cusp of a new and exciting era in its own history with the 'Streets Ahead' Development set to almost double it in size.

"Not only are we looking back over the past thirty years - we are also looking forward to the future."
