Halesowen's kick boxing king Simon Akufo is aiming to make his lifelong dream come true when he has a shot at the world title next month The all-action Akufo has earned the right to challenge for the WKA World Title on Sunday June 8 at the Q-Club, in Birmingham.

Since winning the European title in November he has been avoided by potential challengers on the UK scene and has found it extremely tough to find an opponent.

As the title win placed him at the forefront of the international rankings, Simon's coach and former World Champion Kash Gill has managed to secure a shot at the WKA welterweight world title held by the well respected, big punching champion, Jason Vassallo.

The challenger is relishing the tough task that lies ahead.

He said: "It's a dream come true for me.

"Since I first laced up the gloves all I ever wanted was to follow in my trainers footsteps and now I've finally got an opportunity to do that.

"It is a big step up and it will be a tough fight but I believe I'm the best welterweight in the world - I don't fear anyone."

The Rowley Regis resident's rise to the world scene has delighted his coach.

Gill trained Halesowen featherweight Paul Collins who became a world champion more than two years ago as well as more recently three times world champion Sunny Hira.

Gill said: "I've been lucky to get so many fighters who are so dedicated and have so much talent.

"Three world champions is a pretty good resume for a coach and it's testament to the hard work we all put in together."

Tickets for Akufo's big night can be purchased by calling Gill on 07973421690.
