DUDLEY Kingswinford Colts went out on a high after winning the North Midland's Cup in comprehensive fashion against rivals Stourbridge.

The destructive DK youngsters disposed of Stour 48-0 at Droitwich's Glyn Mitchell Memorial Ground to cap a magnificent season. They ran in eight tries without reply in a game they controlled from start to finish.

In perfect conditions for running rugby on Droitwich's superb playing surface, the big crowd were treated to a thrilling exhibition of power and pace from the DK lads.

DK hit the ground running and after several waves of pressure, opened the scoring with an excellent try with five minutes on the clock.

After the pack had secured good ruck ball it was swept out to Karl Lockley, who skilfully sent in full-back Jak Davis for the try, which was converted by fly-half Gareth Bown.

On nine minutes DK scored again when quick ball to centre Stefan Shillingford allowed him to power through the tackle to surge 45 metres to the line for an unconverted try to make it 12-0.

Stour rallied well and worked their way into the DK 22 only to concede a scrum after 14 minutes. From the set-piece DK turned defence into attack, moving the ball quickly to Davis, who took the ball at pace to scorch 80 metres before touching down an unconverted try to stretch DK's lead to 17-0.

Desperate for some momentum, Stourbridge put in a great effort but the DK pack resumed the offensive and a tremendous break from Joe Francis saw the pack storm into the Stour 22 from where prop Richard Kelly hurtled through a mass of players and over the goal-line. Bown converted to make it 24-0 at the break after Stour missed a penalty.

DK recorded their fifth try when advantage was played after a Stour knock-on in their 22. Davis chipped the ball over the cover for Matt Grove to touch down wide on the right, increasing DK's lead to 29-0.

Grove also scored DK's sixth try after 48 minutes when spotting an opportunity, he came off his right wing to join the open side line and took Shillingford's pass to score wide out making it 34-0.

With the DK pack now constantly rampaging in or around the Stourbridge 22, outside centre Karl Lockley, who had been impressive throughout, benefited from another quick ruck ball to score DK's seventh try, cleverly dummying the cover to score under the posts.

Scrum-half Jordan Brookes converted to increase the DK lead to 41-0 after 54 minutes. Great passing interplay from the DK forwards on 59 minutes saw, fittingly, their skipper and captain Danny Hawkins break free to sprint 25m for DK's eighth and final try.

Brookes added the conversion to make the final score 48-0.
