A KINGSWINFORD postman is planning to deliver cash for a good cause by taking on a tough mountain challenge.

Graham Dews, from Mount Pleasant, is in training for a gruelling run over five peaks in five different nations.

The challenge will be especially demanding because Graham, aged 51, is aiming to complete the mountainous marathon in just 48 hours, running around 40 to 45 miles over some of the most challenging terrain in the UK.

Graham said: "I am really looking forward to it, it is going to be a once in a lifetime thing, I have always wanted to do some of these mountains - It's now or never."

The super-fit postie, who is an experienced long distance runner, will be setting out on Thursday June 26 for Snowdon in Wales to begin the challenge.

He will be running alongside 20 fellow members of the Mercian Fell Running group, who are all attempting the five-peak challenge to raise sponsor cash for Hope House, a nationwide network of children's hospices.

After completing the first peak the team will drive to Scafell Pike in the Lake District before heading to Scotland to tackle Ben Nevis, the highest mountain on their route at 4,410 feet.

The non-stop journey will then take the team to Northern Ireland for an assault on Slieve Donard and to Eire to complete the challenge on Carrantuohill.

Graham, who has two children and three grand-children, said: "There is not much chance of getting sleep, only on the coach between mountains, we will be taking in lots of fluid and high-energy bars just to keep going."
