BOROUGH health bosses are reporting a massive increase in the numbers of people getting help to quit smoking.
The 2007 ban on smoking in enclosed public places is being hailed as a significant factor in the increase, which saw a rise of 17 per cent in the numbers of people stopping smoking with help from the Dudley Stop Smoking Service.
Between April 2007 and March this year, nearly 2,500 smokers kicked the habit with help from NHS services in the region.
Valerie Little, director of public health, said: "Stopping smoking is one of the most important things people can do to improve their health and it has been proven people who use local stop smoking services do much better then those who try on their own."
