SUPERFIT Blind Dave' was guest of honour at Stourbridge Rotary Club's latest get-together where he gave a talk about his record-setting quest to complete seven marathons on seven continents in seven days.

Gutsy father-of-three, Dave Heeley from West Bromwich, made history when he became the first blind man ever to take on and successfullly finish the amazing feat of endurance - which only adventurers Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Dr Mike Stroud have ever accomplished.

Dave, who has been blind since his 20s, decided to take on the epic Seven Magnificent Marathons challenge in the hope of raising £1m for Guide Dogs for the Blind and other similar charities for blind and partially sighted people across the globe.

Fascinated by his determination to complete the ambitious stunt, people across the world sponsored 50-year-old Dave.

But the first person to get behind his campaign was Amblecote businessman Geoff Hill.

The pair met at a bash at Buckingham Palace in honour of their charity work and they have been friends ever since.

And Geoff, who kick-started Dave's fundraising with a £1,000 donation last July, has since encouraged everyone he knows to back the brave blind man's campaign - including his pals at Stourbridge Rotary Club, who last Wednesday (May 21) at their latest get-together at Hagley Golf & Country Club handed over £500 to give Dave's total a boost.

Geoff said: "It's unbelievable really what he's achieved, it's a mammoth feat for anybody let alone a blind chap. The Rotary members were very, very impressed."

Dave said: "They've been very good - I've done a couple of talks down there and they've supported me on my adventure of a lifetime, which has helped raise awareness for the Guide Dogs charity and given disabled people hope."
