TEMPORARY traffic lights have gone up on a busy Kingswinford road due to emergency gas works.

Cadent is undertaking emergency repair works on Moss Grove at the junction of Waterford Grove and has put up multiway traffic signals.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area due to delays.

Dudley Council said it had requested the signals are manually controlled but Cadent said this is not an option as there is a pedestrian crossing within the system.

A spokesman for the council said: "DMBC have stated that this crossing should be removed and repositioned further along the highway, in order to allow for manual control, but we are still meeting strong resistance in relation to this request."

They said: "Congestion in the area is significantly increased and vehicles are advised to find alternative routes where available.

"Cadent has said the signals could be removed tomorrow (Wednesday) and a complete closure of the junction of Waterford Grove installed instead, however this will require confirmation after additional investigatory works in the morning.

"If signals do remain they have again been instructed to reposition the pedestrian crossing and manually control the signals."
