Stourbridge racer, Luke Quigley suffered a difficult weekend in Round Four of the British Superbike Cup but still managed to come away with a hard earned fourth placed finish.
The event got off to a good start as Quigley was second fastest in both of Saturday's free practice sessions. As his PDM Racing team made adjustments to his bike for the final free practice session, he was unable to make much improvement on his time and he slipped to forth fastest.
Qualifying was run in torrential rain, and Quigley struggled to set his machine up for the wet and slippery track, which left him fifth fastest of the Cup runners.
His first race was cut short in dramatic fashion on lap seven, whilst he sat in forth position. As he exited the esses, his engine blew, as the oil sprayed all over the front of his machine it ignited on the exhaust. Quigley quickly pulled off the circuit in a plume of smoke. As he laid his Suzuki GSX-R 1000 on the grass, he could do nothing but watch it was engulfed by the flames.
On his second machine for race two, Quigley made a good start and held third for the majority of the race before slipping to forth place at the end.
The Stourbridge speedster has now slipped to sixth place in the championship, but hopes to improve his fortunes next time out at Snetterton in three weeks.
