A QUARRY Bank youngster got the fright of his life after he was bitten by a shark in his own home.
Sam Hawthorne from Hawthorn Road (pictured) woke in the night to the find a shark head attached to his cheek.
The 14-year-old Thorns Community College student had bought the shark head while on holiday in Portugal a couple of years ago as decoration for his bedroom.
Sam's mum Susan explained how on Friday May 23 the family were rudely awoken by screaming and shouting at around 1.45am.
She jumped up out her sleep and went to see what the commotion was all about, it was then she discovered Sam.
He had got up in the night after having a nightmare and had walked straight into the shark which was hanging on the wall.
Susan said: "I put the light on and found Sam with the shark head stuck to his cheek, with blood pouring down his face and on to his pyjamas.
"It was a huge shock and absolutely terrifying, it was like something out of a horror film."
She rang her sister who is in a paramedic for advice as to how she could free Sam from the shark's bite.
After struggling for 15 minutes the family managed to free Sam - who was left with a gaping wound.
Susan added: "We kept Sam off school the next day as he was suffering from shock and I explained to them what had happened and they recorded it as a shark attack.
"Sam is still recovering but it could have been really nasty, the teeth could have gone in his eye."
The family have know moved the shark to a different part of the house as Sam has refused to have it back in his bedroom.
