A DISABLED young Wordsley man has been given a new lease of life after being presented with state-of-the-art new wheelchair equipment to help him get around.

Callum McEvoy, aged 22, who suffers from quadriplegia cerebral palsy, has been presented with a new folding wheelchair and powered bike attachment, worth £3,915, thanks to local charities and a Pensnett wheelchair company.

Taylor Made Wheelchairs constructed the custom designed wheelchair for Callum, who can only walk a short distance, and it was funded with donations from the Geoff Hill Charitable Trust plus help from the Chris Westwood Charity and the Anthony and Gwendoline Wylde Trust.

The equipment was handed over at Geoff Hill Electrical Store in Amblecote on September 30.

Emma Taylor, of Taylor Made Wheelchairs, said: “For Callum having the new bike attachment is going to give him so much freedom to go further afield as he won't need the help of family or friends to push him and going to the park will be so much easier.”

The Geoff Hill Charitable Trust, which has been helping needy causes and charities since 1997, does not usually help individuals as it cannot vet everyone but the trust made an exception in Callum’s case as it was aware of his plight and knew he was a genuine case, Sue Hill said.

She added: “To date we have helped over 1,700 different causes.”
