BRIERLEY Hill is set to get a £70,000 sculpture to honour a once important steelworks in the town.
Artist impressions of the sculpture which commemorates Round Oak Steelworks have been passed to Brierley Hill ward members to gage their opinions.
The piece of artwork will stand at 22ft and has been produced by borough artist Steve Field.
Round Oak steelworks was an important production plant in Brierley Hill and a source for hundreds of jobs before it closed in 1982- due to a decline in demand for its products.
The Steelworks site is now home to the Copthorne Hotel and Brewer's Wharf pub situated at the Waterfront, Brierley Hill.
If the sculpture is given the go- ahead it will feature on the mutli-million pound Parallel Route, near to Mill Street.
Cabinet member for transport cllr Angus Adams, said: "I have seen the designs and I have sent them to the ward councillors to make a decision.
"The pictures of the artwork of the sculpture shows what the site was like -as anyone below the age of 50 or 60 will not remember the steelworks.
"I think this shows a piece of history which is positive for the area.
"I think the ward members are quite happy with the designs."
Cllr Adams expected the designs to go before Brierley Hill area committee for their approval.
Brierley Hill cllr Margaret Wilson, said: "I have seen the designs and I think they are good designs, I think it is a positive thing for the area."
