A GROUP of gutsy Kingswinford pals are getting set to scale the nation's three highest peaks in less than a day.

Team-mates Matt Biggs, Carl Hancox, Craig Jones-Newey, Michael Wall and Adam Hemmings - who call themselves the Kingswinford Eskimos - are planning to take part in the testing Three Peaks Challenge, which sees teams climb to the tops of Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Mount Snowdon in Wales - all in 24 hours.

But determined to push themselves to the limit - the adrenaline junkies aim to finish the challenge in 20 hours.

Adam Hemmings, aged 38, said: "The training required to enable us to complete this task in the 20 hours time frame will be extreme.

"Where physically possible, we will need to be running up to each of the three summits and then back down again - and in addition to that, Scafell Pike - regarded as the hardest mountain to negotiate - must be climbed in complete darkness.

"It's going to be difficult, but we're looking forward to doing and completing it hopefully."

The group - who will be helped along by drivers David Ridgeway and Robert Wilson - hope their efforts will boost funds and awareness for Cancer Research UK.

It won't be the first gruelling stunt the team have taken on.

In January 2007, they took part in the infamous Wolverhampton Tough Guy challenge; an arduous eight-mile run followed by a five-mile extreme assault course which included running through fire, tackling an electric fence carrying twice the voltage it takes to stun a bull, and an endless stream of water hazards - all in sub zero temperatures.

And since then they have completed various marathons and a second Tough Guy challenge.

But the latest challenge, on July 2, looks set to be their hardest to date by far.
