A COMMUNITY spirited 13-year-old boy has been given an award in memory of a popular Stourbridge policeman who was killed in a tragic road accident.
Tim Newbold, a pupil at Sutton School Special College, Russells Hall, was presented with the Pc Paul Owen Memorial Shield for his outstanding commitment to the Dudley Life Skills Partnership.
Pc Owen was instrumental in setting up the partnership which holds workshops in skills including first aid and off-road driving for youngsters.
The dad-of-one died after he was knocked down by a bus in King Street, Dudley, in October 2004, aged 47.
Tim was nominated for the award by police community support officer Lynn Gardner who praised his committment and enthusiasm.
She said: "Tim has helped clear the churchyard at St Peter's in Cradley and always puts 100 percent into workshops."
West Midlands Police assistant chief constable Suzette Davenport presented Tim with the shield at an awards evening to mark the achievements of scores of youngsters who took part in the scheme.
The project is organised by Barnardo's Dudley Community ROUTES project with Dudley Council, Connexions Black Country, Dudley Youth Offending Team and services like West Midlands Police and local businesses.
