THE roof of a derelict factory building in Lye has been left destroyed after a severe fire yesterday (January 21).
Around 30 firefighters battled the blaze which broke out at a derelict factory unit on Crabbe Street just before 12.45pm
The fire has caused damage to around 50 per cent of the building, according to West Midlands Fire Service.
Several road closures in the surrounding area were put in place while crews dealt with the incident.
People were urged to avoid the area and nearby residents were asked to keep their windows and doors closed.
The fire was confirmed out at 5.50pm but crews remained on site to check for hotspots.
A video of the fire posted on social media showed huge plumes of black smoke rising into the air which could be seen from as far as Clent.
