THREE former Dudley borough councillors with a combined service of nearly 80 years will be bestowed with the highest local authority honours for their community service.

A meeting of the full council this week agreed a move to honour the trio for their “outstanding work”.

Former Cradley and Wollescote councillor Richard Body, who tragically died just days after being re-elected in May 2023, will be made Honorary Alderman.

Former Mayor, Ken Finch,will also be made an Honorary Alderman.

Karen Shakespeare, who served on the council’s cabinet for many years, will be made Honorary Freewoman.

Councillor Andrea Goddard, Mayor of Dudley, said: "These three former councillors epitomise what it means to be an elected member, serving their communities with great pride.

"They served in a number of roles which capture the breadth of the work of councillors.

"I am delighted we can honour them for their outstanding work and look forward to setting a date when we can formally bestow these honours and recognise the work they have all done."

Richard Body represented Cradley and Wollescote from 2004 to 2023. He was the former chair of the Taxis Committee and sadly passed away unexpectedly on May 9 just days after being re-elected.

Ken Finch served the Castle and Priory ward between 1980 and 2023. He was also Mayor of Dudley in 1998/9.

Karen Shakespeare was a councillor for both Halesowen North and later Norton serving from 2000 to 2023. She was also cabinet member for environmental services.
