STOURBRIDGE media entrepreneur Jim Driscoll MBE has celebrated the completion of a £10million development project that has transformed a 6.7-acre rural site.
Creator of award-winning 1980s children’s cartoon series The Shoe People, Jim who lives in Chaddesley Corbett, has transformed the site of the former Park Attwood Centre for Neurorehabilitation near Kidderminster with new luxury homes.
Seven large five-bedroom homes, worth £1.35m plus each, have been built on the site, off Trimpley Lane, Shatterford.
The development has been a long time in the making, with Jim having acquired in the land in 2010 with his son Adam, but he said he “wanted to get it right”.
Jim said it’s the first time he has taken on a major development of this nature and he added: “It’s been great. The houses look magnificent – they’re really beautiful.”
The Park Attwood building had lain empty since the centre for people with acquired brain injuries closed in 2015.
It was originally built as a manor house, but when the estate was sold in 1938 it became a hotel, then a country club, then a clinic for anthroposophical medicine before its final incarnation.
The building was demolished in March 2020 but work on the site was paused due to the Covid pandemic. Things got back up and running in 2021 and Jim has been on site almost every day and he’s “really proud” of the result.
He said: “The site itself is stunning. It’s been something I’ve had a long association with – I just wanted to make sure we got it right.
“I’m really happy with the outcome. It looks fantastic.”
The development has been named Park Attwood Court and the new homes boast large floor-to-ceiling windows and space for a games room, small cinema and a study.
The properties will be released for sale in September – marketed by Knight Frank.
