Officers investigating reports of a rape in Quarry Bank say they are no longer linking the location to their investigation.
Earlier today a number of West Midlands Police officers were spotted in Quarry Bank.
A spokesman for the force said officers were carrying out enquiries after reports of a sexual assault in New Street just after 9.30pm on Wednesday (September 20).
The spokesman said officers were conducting enquiries at the scene and upping patrols in the area to reassure local people.
However, the force has now issued an update saying they are no longer linking the area to their investigation.
A statement from West Midlands Police said: "Following extensive enquiries around a report of a rape on New Street in Quarry Bank on Wednesday 20 September, we are no longer linking this location to our investigation.
"We understand the concern that this must have caused the local community and would like to reassure the public that at this stage, there is nothing to suggest an offence took place at this location or within the Quarry Bank area.
"We continue to support the woman and our enquiries are ongoing."
