A STOURBRIDGE school is back open today (Friday, October 20) after students were evacuated due to a "gas leak."
The leak shut off heating and hot water for teaching blocks across Ridgewood High School in Wollaston yesterday.
Headteacher Mrs Rae Cope has confirmed that the school is open as normal today.
In a statement yesterday, the headteacher said: "Our safety systems detected a possible gas leak this morning and shut down all our heating and hot water for the majority of our main teaching blocks.
"Students and staff evacuated the school quickly and efficiently.
"As a matter of precaution, we sent students and staff home whilst we attempted to get engineers onto site.
"The safety of our staff and students is always our utmost concern, so we took swift action to ensure that nobody had any potential of being in a harmful situation. The engineers are now on site and we are waiting for information from them about opening tomorrow.
"We are grateful to students and their parents/carers responding so well to our requests that we could have a calm and orderly dismissal from school. Our students were fantastic, as always, this morning".
