THOUSANDS of people turned out to pay tribute to fallen armed forces heroes at Remembrance Sunday events across the borough today.
Dudley Council hosted the borough’s largest commemorative event in Dudley – attended by the Mayor of Dudley Councillor Andrea Goddard and other dignitaries.
Members of the public joined with ex-service men and women and community groups to pay their respects.
The commemorations comprised a short parade, led by B Squadron, Royal Yeomanry and the Band of the 24th Invicta Rifles. from the High Street, past the World War One memorial on Priory Street, down Priory Road and onto Ednam Road before it came to a halt at the cenotaph.
Reverend James Treasure led a service of Remembrance and was joined by the Mayor of Dudley at Coronation Gardens, alongside the council leader and chief executive, Aldermen and Deputy Lieutenant Richard Boot OBE.
Dudley’s Mayor, Cllr Andrea Goddard, said: “It has been an incredible privilege and honour to represent Dudley at today’s Remembrance Sunday service.
“This solemn occasion reminds us all to stop and reflect on the huge sacrifices people have made for our country including those brave men and women serving their country today.
“Today we promise to never forget those who have been lost and I would like to thank our guests and the Dudley community for once again joining us in paying their respects.”
Remembrance parades were also held in Stourbridge and Halesowen, with services held across the borough.
