A YOUNG cat with a broken leg who was taken to a vets to be euthanised is "coming on leaps and bounds" after a successful operation thanks to Stourbridge volunteers.
Eight-month-old Jovi has had an operation to put in pins and plates to fix her leg thanks to volunteers at Stourbridge and District RSPCA who took over her care after she was taken into Blacks Vets in Dudley to be put to sleep as her owners couldn't afford her treatment.
The branch raised £5k from an appeal to raise cash to save the frightened young cat's life.
It said in a post on social media: "Sadly she’d suffered a catastrophic leg fracture and her leg had literally been hanging for a week before she was taken for the drastic action to end her life.
"Without hesitation we told our vets not to even consider euthanasia and we immediately rallied the troops to help raise funds for her surgery which was circa £5,000 and rally you all did!
"We were utterly flabbergasted at the speed in which we raised the much needed funds for this life saving surgery.
"We can’t even put into words just how grateful we all are. We simply couldn’t do it without you all.
"Jovi remained in veterinary care until just after Christmas. Prior to her discharge she had her post op check and also her stitches removed and touch wood, all seems to be going well so far.
"A far cry from the frightened girl we saw, clearly in pain, only recently.
"She really is coming on in leaps and bounds now she is getting the right care.
"Jovi needs crate rest for the next 6-8 weeks, so we are hugely thankful to Denise who has come out of fostering retirement to care for Jovi as we are full to bursting and Jovi needs the right care - quiet, calm and restful, to aid her recovery."
