A group of students have shown off their wide range of talents at an annual variety show.

Students pupils from Perryfields Academy in Oldbury dazzled audiences at Stourbridge Town Hall in their annual gala performance, ‘For One Night Only’.

The show, on Wednesday, February 28, saw students show off their array of skills in the performance arts of music, dance, and drama.

Perryfields' head of performing arts Sam Jones said: "This year we had around 90 students involved in the show, with some helping backstage as well.

"We’ve been rehearsing since September.

"A lot of commitment has gone into this, from staff members and students – it was a fantastic night and the audience really loved it."

The event included exam pieces by BTEC Performing Arts and GCSE Music students, and pieces created by the academy’s extracurricular clubs.

Audience members were treated to a variety of performances, ranging from acting and classical music to diverse genres of dance including contemporary and jazz to street and afrobeat.

The event offered the students a glimpse of what life on a professional stage is like.

Mrs Jones added: "Most students only experience performing arts at school and wouldn’t get this kind of opportunity to put on a show externally.

"Performing at the Town Hall gives our showcase a more professional feel, with the big stage, lighting and the backstage element.

"It also gives the students important experience if performing is a field they’d like to explore further."

The event allowed students to show off their dedication and skill, as well as a real sense of professionalism and pride.

Mrs Jones concluded: “It really gives them a sense of professionalism and something to feel proud of – and we are very proud of the show they produced.”
