WORK has got underway on the installation of new play equipment at Lawyers Field in Brierley Hill following a successful campaign.
Once a popular play spot renowned for its tall slide, swings and even a paddling pool until all were removed around 40 years ago, the site – which lies between Delph Road and Church Street - will be kitted out with new equipment for children from the area to enjoy.
Brierley Hill and Wordsley South councillor Adam Davies said he began trying to secure new equipment for the field, also known as Silver End Park, after residents told him during his 2021 election campaign that they wanted to see a children’s play area brought back.
He said: “After what has felt like an incredibly lengthy process of securing the investment, seeking residents’ views on what they would like to see included at the park, feeding this back to the council's parks team, then the tendering process and wait time for the equipment to be built – it really is fantastic to see work finally begin.”
Fellow ward councillor Wayne Little, who has also worked on the campaign, added: “We’re so pleased the work is now underway and that in just a few weeks’ time local kids will have play equipment on their doorstep for the first time in more than 40 years.”
