ODEON cinema at Merry Hill has been awarded a new top food rating of 5 after being reinspected by food hygiene inspectors after pest activity was previously spotted.
The discovery of mouse droppings and mould at the multiplex at The Embankment, Brierley Hill, resulted in a food hygiene rating of 2 after an inspection on December 6 and a call for improvements to be made.
The cinema’s food offering, however, has been brought back up to standard and after a reinspection the venue has been given top marks by food hygiene inspectors.
A new top rating of 5, which means hygiene standards are very good, was awarded on April 8, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows - thanks to efforts to resolve the issues highlighted.
According to a food safety officer’s report - mouse droppings were found in an ice cream storeroom, a drinks container room, by one of the cinema screens, in a cleaning products room and by a sandwich chiller unit at Costa.
There were also concerns about temperature checks on hot food and calls made for the ice machine and popcorn display warmers to be thoroughly cleaned and for accurate information regarding allergens to be clearly shown.
Odeon Cinemas Group apologised for the inconvenience and said staff worked hard to rectify the problems.
People can see all food hygiene inspection results on the national ratings.food.gov.uk website.
