With the new security measures coming into place at airports across the UK soon, you might be wondering what the rules are on liquids and how the new screening equipment works at Birmingham Airport.

Items you can't take in hand luggage

No liquids over 100ml

At Birmingham Airport, the current rules mean that all passengers leaving the airport can only carry containers up to 100ml with liquids, pastes and gels.

However, baby milk and prescribed medicines with associated documents are exempt from this rule.

No limit on the number of containers

The airport asks that all passengers avoid putting their containers in plastic bags.

It also explains that passengers can bring as many containers through security as they need.

Screening process

Passengers can now leave all their liquids in their hand luggage rather than taking it out before their bags go through the scanner.

Electrical items can also be left in carry on luggage however, all items must be removed from pockets.

This includes phones, keys, coins and tissues but those wearing a watch can keep it on.

Water bottles

You can take a water bottle through security but only if it is empty.

These new rules are due to a new Government Directive which has been issued to all UK ports.
