THE team behind Wall Heath in Bloom have told how the village community campaign is blossoming two years after it first began.
The group, founded by community campaigner Shaz Saleem, Steve Cutler, who has become the chairman, and Andy Vaughan, from Decomar, has gone from strength to strength.
Shaz Saleem, who said he drafted the support of green-fingered Steve Cutler to get the initiative off the ground, has said the team’s efforts have brightened up the village and received plenty of support from community representatives and residents.
This year the village was also entered into the official In Bloom campaign for the first time, with the judges sweeping in on July 15 and the results expected in September.
The Wall Heath in Bloom group also launched a Young People in Bloom competition with schools, Guides and Rainbows in the area invited to take part.
Church of the Ascension School was named the winner and awarded a £100 cheque – sponsored by the Saleem Foundation local charitable organisation.
Shaz Saleem, a former councillor for the village, said he’s been “pleased to see the group grow” and he added: “The work our volunteers are doing is just incredible. I thank each of them for their time and dedication in making our village come alive.
“Flowers simply have a natural way of brightening our day, bringing a warm smile to many people."
