A MAN has been arrested after a car smashed into several vehicles before hitting a police officer in the Old Quarter of Stourbridge at the weekend.

The incident happened in Wheeler Street at around 12.20am on Saturday July 27.

A female police officer was taken to hospital with head and leg injuries, but she was not believed to have been seriously hurt.

West Midlands Police have launched an investigation into the incident and a teenaged male, aged 19, from Dudley, has been arrested and bailed – police confirmed today.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “We are investigating after an officer was injured on Wheeler Street, Stourbridge, just after 12.20am on Saturday (July 27).

“A vehicle reversed into several parked cars before hitting an officer and driving away.

“The female officer was taken to hospital with a head and leg injuries that are not believed to be serious.

“A man, aged 19, from Dudley, was arrested on suspicion of assault and several driving offences.

“He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent emergency medics to the incident after being alerted by the police to the junction of Bowling Green Road and Green Street at 12.24am and a spokesperson for the service said: “One ambulance attended and treated a pedestrian who had been injured after a collision with a car.

“The pedestrian, a woman, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was conveyed to Russells Hall Hospital for further care.”
