A FORMER brewery site in Lye is being transformed into a new 'entertainment village' boasting a new bar and huge gig venue.

The historic former Sadlers Brewery's taphouse on Station Drive, which closed in 2020, reopens this month (August) as the Steamyard Bar.

It offered guests a first look as part of Birmingham Jazz Festival from July 26-28, but its official launch will be during the August bank holiday.

It's hoped the bar will serve as a social hub for Stourbridge, offering space for food, drink, live music, and comedy nights.

Street food vendor Stuffed Any Way You Like will offer a 'Stuffed at Steamyard' menu for the Steamyard Bar, featuring smash burgers, wings and local favourites like faggots and peas, black pudding and pork pies.

General manager Will Young, former boss at Birmingham pub The Woodman, said: "People were really sad to see Sadlers go so we think this will be great for the area.

"The bar blends the historic essence of the brewery with modern touches, offering a cozy and vibrant atmosphere.

"The plan is to host top musical talent as well proving a platform for local artists."

Work is also underway to convert the former brewery's huge warehouse space on the ground floor into 'Unit 2' - which will have a 1,000 space capacity designed to host club nights as well as touring bands and artists.

With its black-painted walls, funky neon signage, and cutting-edge lighting Unit 2 promises to be a great venue.

Together the two venues will be known as the 'Steamyard Arts and Entertainment Village'.

Once the gig venue is open, there's a further five-year plan in place to further develop the site - Conyers Trading Estate.

Members of the Conyers family are involved in the project creating scope for expansion into surrounding units - with the village served by Lye train station.

Sadlers Brewery operated at the site from 2015 until it moved to the Lake District in 2020.
