Norton Social Club has installed a defibrillator outside its premises for the whole community to use, after raising £1000 for the purpose.

The private members club has been based in Osmaston Road for 114 years, and is run by 10 committee members as well as four trustees.

The idea to install the medical device came from a quiz night held for Dudley Community First Responders in 2023.

Club members sold cupcakes during the King’s Coronation celebrations and organised further quizzes to gather funds.

At March's Annual General Meeting, the committee updated members about the progress of the fundraiser, and by the night's end, more than £1000 had been raised in total as members literally nominated themselves to donate.

With guidance from the community first responders, the club purchased the defibrillator and on July 18 the first responders returned for a training session, demonstrating how to use the defibrillator and the blood pack that accompanies it in the cage.

The defibrillator is now registered with the Circuit website, so that anyone making a 999 call can be informed if the defibrillator is sufficiently nearby for them.

The club would like to thank Dudley Community First Responders, as well as its own members and trustees, for support.
