THE emergency services have confirmed a person has died after a railway line incident at Blakedown.

Trains between Stourbridge Junction and Worcester Foregate Street were cancelled, with a rail replacement service in operation, after an incident near the Mill Lane level crossing.

West Midlands Railway and Network Rail said they were dealing with “an incident between Stourbridge Junction and Worcester Foregate Street and a large emergency services presence was reported at Blakedown.

This morning West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed it was called out to a fatality, which Network Rail said happened at the Harborough Hill footpath crossing, close to Mill Lane.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: “We were called at 6.54pm last night (Sunday) to the railway line near Mill Lane, Kidderminster.

“HART Paramedics, two paramedic officers, two ambulances and a BASICS emergency doctor attended the scene.

“Sadly, one patient was confirmed deceased on scene.”

A spokesperson for West Midlands Railway said today: “Services between Worcester and Stourbridge were subject to delays and cancellation on Sunday evening while the emergency services dealt with an incident on the railway at Blakedown.

“Our thoughts are with everybody affected by this incident. Any passenger whose journey was delayed by 15 minutes or more can claim compensation via the Delay Repay scheme.”

British Transport Police has said the incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

Network Rail confirmed at around 9pm last night that the line had reopened and a spokesperson said today: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the person who sadly lost their life last night.

"We are working with the British Transport Police and Rail Accident Investigation Branch to understand how this tragedy happened.”
