Fifty years on from his last visit to Edgbaston, a care home resident saw his dream come true when he returned to the cricket ground recently.

Anthony Garlick, 86, a resident of Parkfield Grange in Stourbridge, and a Warwickshire County Cricket Club fan, attended a T20 match at the stadium half a century after his last visit.

He saw the Warwickshire Bears come out on top in a comfortable win against the Derbyshire Falcons.

Mr Garlick, who played the game regularly until he was diagnosed with MS at the age of 29, said: "It was fabulous to be able to go back to Edgbaston.

"It was so incredible to come out of the lift, round the corner and see the green of the pitch. It made me feel very emotional."

The trip was arranged as part of the 'Sprinkle of Cinnamon' initiative at Parkfield Grange, which seeks to provide residents with memorable experiences based on their interests.

The care home's senior general manager, Julie Weaver, said: "We were delighted to make this trip possible."

Mr Garlick attended the match with a couple of friends he has made at Parkfield Grange, and they all were supported by the care team.

Parkfield Grange home admissions advisor, Emily Hocking, and activity coordinator Samantha Smith, both cricket fans themselves, said it was lovely to see Mr Garlick enjoying himself at the game.

The care home offers 68 large en-suite bedrooms and six one bedroom care suites. These suites include an en-suite bedroom, lounge and kitchenette.

The care home says, although developed with couples in mind, the suites are also suited for those who are looking for more space and privacy than a traditional care bedroom.
