HARDWORKING students in the Stourbridge area have been celebrating their GCSE results as they prepare for their next step in life.
Students at Pedmore High School have achieved some excellent GCSE and vocational results this summer.
The school has congratulated high flyer, Luka Foley, who achieved a magnificent eight grade 9’s and one grade 8.
Other high-achieving students included Aleeza Akhtar, who achieved one grade 9, one grade 8, four grade 7's and three grade 6's and Muneeb Razak, who achieved three grade 8’s, three grade 7’s and three grade 6’s.
Students at Old Swinford Hospital are also celebrating a strong set of GCSE results, with 40% of all results at Grades 7-9.
Top grades this year go to Aavai Kandola who has achieved an incredible 8 Grade 9s, and a Grade 8 in Chinese, Hayden Franks who achieved an impressive 7 Grade 9s and a Grade 7, Kieran O’Reilly who has gained 6 Grade 9s, 1 Grade 8 and 2 Grade 7s, Dominic Woodley who achieved 6 Grade 9s and 3 Grade 8s, Alex Peters who took home 5 Grade 9s, 2 Grade 8s and 2 Grade 7s, and Christophe Cheung who achieved 4 Grade 9s, 3 Grade 8s and a Grade 7 to complement his merit in the Maclaurin Maths Olympiad.
Summerhill School in Kingswinford has set new records with the number of 9-7 grades achieved, with over 64% gaining a grade 5 or above in English and Maths and 81% of students gaining a grade 4 or above in English and Maths, the cohort of 2024 have set new standards.
At Kingswinford Academy, standout individual achievements included Sam Griffiths, who achieved eight grade 9s, two grade 8s, one grade 7, Maiya-Jay Patel, who achieved seven grade 9s, one grade 8, one Distinction* and Grace Raxton, who achieved four grade 9s, three grade 8s, two grade 7s.
Collecting her GCSE results, Maiya-Jay, said: “I'm over the moon with my results. I thank my teachers greatly. I would not have succeeded without the fantastic support I have received from my teachers over the course of my time here at Kingswinford Academy”.
Sam, added: “Thanks to everyone at the school for pushing me and for making me believe what is possible".
At Thorns Collegiate Academy in Quarry Bank, 90% of students achieved five or more GCSEs or equivalent passes, with Grade 5 set by the government as a strong pass. Nearly 10% of the grades awarded were in the range of grades 7 – 9, with a total of 46 Grade 9 or Level 2 Distinction* awarded, the highest grade possible. In English, just under a quarter of students achieved grades 7 to 9, which is a continuation of the excellent results in this subject.
At Kinver High School 80% of students attained 5 or more GCSE’s at Grade 4+.
Notable subject attainment was achieved in Chemistry and Spanish where half of all grades attained by students were at the highest level (Grade 9-7)
Special recognition for outstanding attainment went to Liam Hartill, Ryan Potts, Samantha Cooper, Sophia Price, Lilia George, Hollie MacBeth, Isabelle John.
Hagley Catholic High School also celebrated fantastic results from their Year 11 Class of 2024.
Student progress is significantly up, attainment in English and maths is up in both grades 9 to 7 and grades 9 to 5. The number of grade 9s is up, nearly 60% of all students made positive progress from their Key Stage 2 starting point.
