SIX men have been arrested and more than 150 cannabis plants have been seized in Brierley Hill.

Police were called to Adelaide Road shortly before 11.30pm yesterday (Sunday September 1) after a group of men were spotted breaking into a property.

As officers arrived at the scene the group scattered, with two men trying to ram a police car in an unsuccessful attempt to flee.

Another man tried to get away by jumping fences, but he was found by police dog handlers hiding in some bushes a short distance away.

In total six men were arrested and they remained in police custody today while enquiries continue.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “Upon searching the house our officers found an extensive cannabis grow with more than 150 plants growing in rooms throughout the property.

“Growing rooms were found throughout, including in both upstairs rooms and in the attic.

“We are now working alongside colleagues from the property’s energy provider to make the property safe and dispose of the plants.

“Cannabis farms can have a devastating impact on the surrounding neighbourhoods.

“The dangerous electricity bypasses can lead to catastrophic house fires and the associated crime linked to cannabis farms has a knock-on effect on the area.

“Our operations targeting cannabis farms often require the public's help to tell us where and when this activity is happening.”

Anyone concerned that such activity is happening in the neighbourhood can call police on 101 or contact officers via Live Chat on the force website, it alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
