OAKFIELD Road in Wollescote has reopened after the discovery of a suspected grenade saw police and the bomb squad alerted.
West Midlands Police have confirmed they were called just before 1pm today (Saturday September 14) after an item thought to be a grenade was found.
The discovery resulted in the road being closed and the number 7 bus diverted as a precaution as checks were carried out by bomb disposal experts.
Police, however, have since confirmed the item found was not a grenade and the road has reopened.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said of the incident: "We were called to Oakfield Road, Wollescote, at just before 1pm today, after a suspected grenade was found.
"The road was closed as a precaution and after the item was assessed by the EOD it was found not to be a grenade."
No further information has been released.
