An opticians has relocated its Stourbridge store after 30 years on the high street.

Specsavers has moved into a larger unit in the Ryemarket Shopping Centre, with eight testing rooms, an audiology department, and a specialist contact lens area.

The new store was officially opened by Dame Mary Perkins, co-founder of Specsavers, who was joined by the deputy mayor and mayoress of Dudley and MP Cat Eccles.

Jason Bridgewater, store director, said: "Lots of hard work has gone on behind the scenes in the last few months to get the new store ready and a big thank you to all the team for making it possible.

"The move allows us to provide a better customer experience, enhanced facilities and an improved working environment for the team too, so we’re really excited about our new chapter in the Ryemarket Shopping Centre."

The team at Specsavers Stourbridge is headed up by directors Jason Bridgewater, Terry Tam, and new audiology director Louise Fellows, who together have more than 95 years' experience between them.

State-of-the-art equipment has been installed throughout the new store, including an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) machine.

This technology allows the optometrist to take a 3D image of the back of your eye to help spot serious eye conditions, including glaucoma, up to four years earlier.

The deputy mayor, councillor Peter Lee, and mayoress, Gloria Lee, were also keen to praise the new store.

They said: "As a customer, I’m really excited to see the new store – it’s a fantastic setting in a great, accessible location.

"And as deputy mayor, I’m delighted that Stourbridge can benefit from this flourishing and important healthcare business in its new impressive location."

The new store is open Monday to Saturday from 8.30am until 5.30pm, and on Sundays from 10am until 4pm.
