DRIVERS are being warned not to ignore closure signs on a Norton road.
Work is taking place on Racecourse Lane to replace gas mains - it started on September 27 and is expected to continue until December 19.
The road, which is used to link Stourbridge with Hagley, is closed between Fairways Avenue and Ounty John Lane.
A spokesperson for Dudley Council said some drivers are ignoring signs and proceeding up to the site where work is taking place.
They said: "Unfortunately, Cadent are reporting a number of issues with vehicles driving past the road closed signs and proceeding up to their works site, where there is insufficient space to turn around, resulting in damage to protective signing and guarding equipment.
"Access is available to frontages only and this highway cannot currently be used as a through route due to Cadent’s occupation and open excavations."
They said a signed diversion route is in place, with advanced warning signs at relevant junctions.
