A MAN has been arrested after a stabbing in Stourbridge High Street at the weekend.

Two men were injured in the drama which happened in the early hours of yesterday morning (Sunday October 20).

The ambulance service confirmed emergency medics were called to the Stourbridge Lion just after 2am to reports of a stabbing outside.

“An ambulance, paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma team attended the scene. Crews arrived to find two men who had sustained injuries.

“Both received treatment on scene before being conveyed to hospital for further treatment.”

Police said the injuries suffered by the men were “not considered life-threatening” and they added that a 33-year-old man was arrested and bailed while enquiries continue.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said of the incident: “We were called to Stourbridge High Street after a report of a disorder involving a group of people shortly before 2am on Sunday (October 20).

Mike Doherty, area manager at Amber Taverns which runs the Stourbridge Lion, has moved to reassure people that the incident happened outside the pub, not inside the venue, and he said door staff rushed to try to diffuse the situation.

He told the News: "It didn’t happen in the premises. Our pub is safe. Our door staff went out to give first aid."

He said door staff had refused entry to two people earlier, adding: "If they had come in the pub they would have been searched, but they were refused admission."

He said he hoped those responsible for the disorder would be identified by CCTV and he added: "We met police first thing this morning to see if anything we can do to assist."

A spokesperson for Stourbridge Lion added: “The safety and wellbeing of our staff and customers is incredibly important to us. There is a nominated member of staff at each premises who is first aid trained, and we work closely with our door teams to ensure the highest level of safety for our customers.

“While the attack did not occur on the premises our staff did provide first aid to the injured individuals and contacted the emergency services. We will continue to support any further investigations into this incident.”
