AS the Halloween decorations come down, residents in Stourbridge’s Old Quarter have been praised for serving up a ‘treat’ of an evening on October 31.

Trick or treaters both young and older alike enjoyed an evening of spooky fun as the sun went down on Thursday.

Halloween in the Old Quarter has become something of a modern tradition and this year, it seemed, ever more homes were given a seasonal makeover for the occasion.

Reflecting on another successful All Hallows' Eve, which left many residents out of sweets by about 8pm, people took to social media to heap praise on the creative residents whose imaginative spooky displays seem to get better year on year.

One in particular, in Western Road, had a special 'treat' for trick or treaters. The display featured an eerie pumpkin-faced figure that soaked anyone who dared to stop and gaze at an atmospheric patch of pumpkins for too long.

In a post on The Old Quarter Stourbridge Facebook page - Ben Anwyl congratulated all those involved in brightening up a cold, dark autumn evening – saying parents seemed to have put as much effort into their costumes as their little ones.

And he praised families and residents involved in creating a memorable Halloween, saying they had done themselves proud, adding: “My belief is that if kids have memories like this to look back on fondly, they may be less likely to end up like some of the other scary youths that are too often seen wandering the streets.”

Councillor Andrew Tromans, who represents the Wollaston and Stourbridge Town ward, also commended the residents of the Old Quarter on a job well done after enjoying a night out trick or treating himself.

He said on Facebook: “Well done OQ.

“Massive effort and lovely evening of spooky family fun.”
