AMBLECOTE councillors have once again turned a grassy area at Withymoor into a sea of poppies for Remembrance created by volunteers with disabilities.

Councillors Kamran Razzaq, Paul Bradley and Pete Lee unveiled the striking display for Remembrance in Hillfields Road on Sunday November 3.

It’s the second time the councillors have created the display, by the junction of Kirkstone Way and Vicarage Road, which features an array of poppies crafted by service users and staff at Queen’s Cross Network in Dudley.

The eye-catching sea of around 2,000 plastic poppies interspersed with metal solider cutouts pays tribute to fallen soldiers and those who continue to serve in the armed forces.

Cllr Lee, Dudley’s deputy mayor, said: “We had great response last year from residents all over the borough, not just our ward Amblecote, so we’ve done it again this year.

“These poppies were made at the request of Cllr Razzaq by Queen’s Cross Network, Wellington Road, Dudley, so our thanks go out to all the lovely people at the centre and a massive thanks to Paul Astley - the manager at the centre.

“They looked great last year and look brilliant this year.

“Myself and Cllr Bradley wish to specially thank Cllr Razzaq for his hard work in all of this. We always love to pay respects to our fallen heroes. Thanks with all our hearts.”
