REMEMBRANCE parades and services will be taking place across the Dudley borough this weekend to honour fallen soldiers and armed forces heroes.
The borough’s big event will take place in Dudley on Sunday November 10.
Current and ex-service men and women, along with families of the fallen and community groups, will parade from Vicar Street at 10.20am, moving along High Street, Stone Street, Priory Street, Priory Road, ahead of a service of Remembrance at the cenotaph in Ednam Road at 10.45am.
The event, which will be attended by the Mayor of Dudley, will be broadcast live by Black Country Radio.
Councillor Hilary Bills, Mayor of Dudley, said: “Remembrance Sunday gives citizens of the borough the opportunity to pay their respects to all who have made the supreme sacrifice for their country.
“It is our chance to give thanks and pay tribute to all those who serve or have served in the armed forces, and I would encourage everyone in the local community to join us.
“All are welcome to pay their respects by placing a poppy in the special cross of remembrance in the Market Place, which will be in place until Friday November 22.”
Road closures will be in place including Priory Road, Ednam Road, New Street, Tower Street, Priory Street, Stone Street, St James’s Road, Parsons Street, Market Place, High Street, Wolverhampton Street, Union Street and Vicar Street.
Veterans will also join council staff, councillors and members of the public at the First World War Clock Tower Memorial in Priory Street for the annual Armistice Day, to mark the end of the First World War, on Monday November 11.
The service, which starts at 10.55am, includes the laying of wreaths and a two-minute silence. Priory Street will be closed for some of the morning, with alternative routes signposted.
Parades and services will also be taking place on Sunday November 10 in: Stourbridge, Lye, Wall Heath, Wordsley, Kingswinford, Pensnett, Brierley Hill, Sedgley, Lower Gornal, Halesowen, Cradley; with an event at Shell Corner taking place on Friday November 8 at 7pm.
The popular Stourbridge Military Vehicle Parade will take place in Stourbridge on Saturday November 9.
The Shirley Pipe Band will lead the procession which will travel down Stourbridge High Street, starting at 11am, winding through the town centre, along Market Street, and onto the Bonded Warehouse in Canal Street where the vehicles will be displayed for the public to view.
