BLACK Country soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice were commemorated in Cradley as the crowds turned out for Remembrance Sunday yesterday.

People turned out in force for the annual parade and memorial service on Sunday November 10 to remember the fallen.

Veterans marched from the community centre in Colley Lane at 2.35pm to the war memorial where wreaths were laid and a silence was held, in remembrance of those who lost their lives in combat.

A service then followed at St Peter’s Church.

The King's representative, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of the West Midlands Nick Venning, was among invited dignitaries.

Wreaths were laid at the cenotaph by the Deputy Lieutenant, former Cradley Labour councillor Tim Crumpton on behalf of Halesowen MP Alex Ballinger, the Air Cadets, Scouts, Guides, Cradley Residents Association, The Laurels, Overend Chapel, Providence Church. Friends of Colley Gate, Friends of Bernard Oakley Memorial Park, councillor Pete Dobb for Belle Vale, councillor Bex Collins for Hayley Green and Cradley South and councillors Ryan Priest, Ethan Stafford and Kash Kahn for Wollescote and Cradley North, and Mick Poultney on behalf of Colley Gate Gardening Club.

A wreath was also laid on behalf of Cradley Community Centre which put on refreshments afterwards.
