HUNDREDS of coats have been donated to help vulnerable people stay warm this winter.
Brierley Hill Market Hall acted as a collection point for donations of winter coats that could be handed over to those who may struggle to stay warm throughout the cold months.
A public appeal was issued, in partnership with BBC WM, calling for donations of coats for men, women, boys and girls of all ages by November 9 and those involved were overwhelmed with the response.
Brierley Hill & Wordsley South councillor Adam Davies told the News “an amazing 600 coats have been donated”.
He said: “The community's response to this campaign has been truly overwhelming.
“The team at the market have grabbed this effort with both hands, bringing together the support of our local community, and the sheer number of donations speaks for itself.
"While we still need to look out for our vulnerable neighbours and those who may struggle to stay warm this winter - particularly pensioners who have lost their Winter Fuel Allowance - let's hope this collective effort will help to make a positive difference."
Natasha Bridgwater, who runs the fruit and veg stall at the market, said: “We’re always here to help charities at the market and hope we will have helped this year by taking donations for this campaign.”
