Aldi has launched a donation drive to help foodbanks struggling this Christmas.

The supermarket has revealed a list of the most in-demand items, including tinned food, festive treats, toiletries, and pet food.

The initiative follows research by Aldi's community partner, Neighbourly, which found that 80 per cent of foodbanks expect increased demand this festive season.

Many fear they will not have enough supplies to support their communities, and almost a third report difficulties in recruiting volunteers.

Luke Emery, national sustainability director at the supermarket, said: "Christmas is always an extremely busy period for foodbanks and other charitable organisations helping those most in need."

Steve Butterworth, Neighbourly CEO, added: "With many foodbanks and local charities facing increased demand and lower donations, any extra support we can get this Christmas will be vital."

Shoppers can donate items at Aldi's community donation points across the country.

Aldi expects to donate over one million meals to UK charities, community groups, and foodbanks this Christmas.
