A MAN has been jailed after he attempted to kidnap a woman and a teenager in two separate incidents.
Rambo Baeram attempted to grab a woman in her twenties from behind and force her into his car, a black Audi, on Scarborough Road, Walsall.
The 25-year-old then punched the woman in the face as she resisted him before she was able to escape and run to a nearby home for help.
The attempt took place on February 28 and, four days later, Baeram tried to coax a 17-year-old girl into his car on Hawes Road, Walsall.
When the teenager refused, he got out of his Audi and physically and sexually assaulted her before she escaped and ran to a nearby home for help, notifying police she was in danger by activating the emergency call feature on her phone.
West Midlands Police reviewed CCTV footage from both incidents and identified Baeram’s Audi pulling up beside both women.
He claimed he didn’t own the vehicle and was at home sleeping at the time of the assaults, but both women identified Baeram as the attacker in a line-up.
Baeram, of Forrester Street, Walsall was charged with two counts of attempted kidnap, two counts of assault and one count of sexual assault.
He was found guilty by a jury at an earlier trial and was sentenced to five years in prison at Wolverhampton Crown Court on November 15.
He has also been placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.
Sergeant Carrie Stimpson from West Midlands Police’s Public Protection Unit said: “Baeram had no relationship to either of the victims - they were strangers, attacked on the streets when they should feel safe.
“These incidents were deeply concerning and we worked extremely hard to bring Baeram to justice.
“The women have been very brave throughout the whole process and were even forced to sit through a trial.
“I commend them for their courage.”
