FLOODING on a main junction in Amblecote during Storm Bert has led to calls for action to prevent the issue.
The junction with High Street, Collis Street and Wollaston Road was flooded yesterday (Sunday November 24) as heavy rain hit the country over the weekend.
Stourbridge MP Cat Eccles put out a warning on social media for drivers to avoid the area and said she has called for upgrades to the "outdated" drainage system in the area to Dudley Council and Severn Trent.
Severn Trent said it is happy to talk to Cat, but that the issue is with surface flooding and Dudley Council said it had teams out working over the weekend to clear localised flooding.
Cat said on social media: "The drainage system here is extremely outdated and I've called many times for upgrades between Wollaston village and this junction.
"I'll be contacting Severn Trent and Dudley Council again to highlight this regular problem."
A spokesperson for Dudley Council said: “Our teams were working over the weekend to clear localised street flooding, caused by heavy rain and the final leaf fall blocking drains in some locations.
“The network continued to function throughout the borough, including in Amblecote, but we are continuing to check the highway today.
“Residents are reminded that they can report drainage issues and flooding at any time through MyDudley.”
A Severn Trent spokesperson said: “Surface flooding, like what’s been experienced, is when there’s a lot rainfall in a short amount of time that can’t drain away quick enough through the drains and gullies that highways and council own.
"While we have had no reports of any issues, or sewer flooding, we would be happy to have a conversation with the MP and the council about issues in the area.”
