Stourbridge was bustling with festive fun today as the crowds turned out for the Christmas lights switch-on.

There was entertainment across the town with children’s rides, choir performances and entertainment on the High Street ahead of the Grinch and Councillor Hilary Bills, Mayor of Dudley, switching on the lights.

Stourbridge Town Hall hosted a Christmas vintage and craft fayre during the day, where people enjoyed live music, entertainment, old-time dancing, afternoon tea and a selection of vintage sellers, craft stalls and handmade items from small local businesses.

There was entertainment at Ryemarket Square, where children were able to meet The Grinch, and there was an eclectic mix of local guest acts and open mic sessions on an outdoor stage at Coventry Street from 1 to 7pm in association with Plugged Inn.

Councillor Hilary Bills, Mayor of Dudley, said: “It was fantastic to see such a great turnout in Stourbridge today and everyone enjoying the festive fun.

“Thank you to everyone who came along to the event and supported the businesses in the town.”

Sedgley will hold the last of the town switch-on events tomorrow (1 December), with local community events and activities taking place throughout the day.

Deputy Mayor Pete Lee and local boxing star Kirstie Bavington, will be switching on the lights at 6.30pm.

The town centre Christmas events are being sponsored by Merry Hill and Jewson.
