A DIAMOND Wordsley couple have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary surrounded by their friends and family.
Vernon, 83 and Ethel Wood, aged 81 from Swanfield Road fell love at the a Brierley Hill fun fair, when they were just 15 and 17.
The couple were together for six years before they married at Brierley Hill church on July 10 1948.
Vernon who was attracted to Ethel due to her “beautiful blue eyes” served as a full corporal in the 4th Queens own Hussars serving in World War two.
The couple both like to keep busy, Vernon enjoys gardening and learning Italian and Ethel likes to read and do sewing and they both enjoy travelling.
Vernon said: “The secret to a happy marriage is working together and never do anything a part.”
The couple celebrated their wonderful achievement by going for a meal at the Forge in Gornal, with their family including daughter Angela, two grandchildren Lisa and Kerry and two great grandchildren Thomas and Ellie-Mai.
