THE Probus Club held its August lunch meeting at the Talbot Hotel on 19 August.
Lady guests joined us for the occasion to hear a fascinating talk by Roy Peacock on 'Forgotten Victories of 1918'.
Roy described battles and actions leading up to the breaching of the Hindenburg Line exactly 80 years ago and the Armistice in November 1918.
In Roy's words, these events together with several significant domestic developments, including 'Votes for Women', made 1918 the most important year of the 20th century.
Malcolm Totney gave the vote of thanks on behalf of an appreciative audience.
Visiting guests are invited to join our lunchtime meetings which are held at
The Talbot Hotel at 1pm on the third Tuesday of each month - contact Andrew Scudamore on 01384 376314 for further details.
