Himley’s valiant bid to claim their first Birmingham League Premier Division title will now require a miracle after the rain wrecked their hopes.
Himley sit 24 points behind league leaders Walsall with only one game remaining.
The Stourbridge Road side now need to bat first and win when they travel to Kenilworth Wardens on Saturday (noon start) and hope Walsall lose away at Wolverhampton without picking up a solitary point.
Whatever the outcome skipper Greg Wright has been delighted with the way his side have performed.
Himley are guaranteed a top four finish but the skipper is keen to see his side finish second.
He said: “The team have played fantastically well to get us into this position and it’s just a pity our title chase has been thwarted by the rain.
“We have had seven games abandoned by the rain compared to Walsall’s four, which has not helped us.
“If we win on Saturday we can finish the season on 300 points, which would have been enough to win the league last season.
“We have cemented ourselves a top four finish already but it would be nice to finish up in second place.”
Himley’s Staffs Cup Final away at Old Hill was postponed for the second week running on Sunday and it is now expected to take place at the beginning of next season, although the details are still to be confirmed.
